Art of Mindfulness Through Poetry

Updated: Aug 27, 2020

Mindfulness is maintaining a movement by movement awareness of our feelings, thoughts, body and the environment. It’s about being in the moment and taking in control of what you can.

In the Art of Mindfulness we learn to be present and to be in the moment. Bringing mindfulness to the activities we already choose to include in our lives is a great way to start. Many of these activities can include- reading, swimming, gardening or biking- as the list goes on.

The art of mindfulness through poetry are poems that bring peace in our mind, our body and our surrounding environment. Through the poems we gain momentum, knowledge and calmness.

This helps us in many ways where we are in charge of ourselves. Poems are a great way to express our feelings to the world. It is a great way of showing to the world how different one can be from the 7.8 billion people in our world. And for people who enjoy reading poems it's a fascinating way to see the world through someone else’s perspective and becoming more aware of other people's feelings and problems.

I am more of a reader when it comes to poetry. I enjoy reading poetry, mostly the ones that keep me in a mindful state. The art of mindfulness through poetry helps me become more calm and more “in the moment”. It helps me to understand other people and their problems in a positive state of mind.

Reading takes me to a different universe where everything in the beginning is calm and then there is a problem which is solved with a positive outcome. If we think about each action we take in our daily lifestyle— There is a problem. What can I do? Am I able to solve it? Will this help others including me? Am I hurting myself or others?— We can somewhat be in charge what we do and what we say

Throughout my experience with anxiety, I’ve noticed and observed that mindfulness poetry helped me reduce my anxiety. When I read the mindful poems, I was in a state of mind where I knew I am in charge of my thoughts, feelings, body movement and what I say. It helped become more engaged with my people and the environment.
